Lauds FG’s initiative to boost local manufacturing

The concepts of entrepreneurship and mentorship will form the focal points of discussion at the 2023 Mid-Year Meeting of the Board of Fellows of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (BOF- PSN), Chairman, Pharm. (Dr) Joel Adagadzu has said.

He made the disclosure at the press briefing to herald the 3-Day programme, which is slated to hold from 11 to 13 July, 2023.

He explained the choice of the two themes for this year’s seminar and lecture, saying entrepreneurship is inline with the global investment environment, as it would assist Fellows who are grappling with their businesses to learn how to bounce back to work, without further delay. While mentorship will be a great concept to groom green horns for professional growth and national development .

According to him” The concept of entrepreneurship is becoming more significant in the global economic environment. It is a concept that rides on the back of skills, commitment and hard work Fellows who are battling to stay afloat in their businesses have the opportunity to learn a few tips that will help them to sustain their businesses in the face of unfair competition by charlatans”.

To deliver the Public Lecture, which will be hybrid in nature, is Prof. Lere Baale, a professor of Business Studies from the Netherlands School based in Lagos.

The PSN-BOF Chairman has also lauded the initiative of the Federal Government in reducing importation of pharmaceutical products from 60 to 40 per cent, affirming that Nigerian local drug producers are capable of delivering the needed services if given the right incentives to thrive.

He highlighted myriads of challenges confronting these manufacturers, including huge debts from government, epileptic power supply, poor road networks, shortage of raw materials, and others as sources of their setback.

Adagadzu, therefore assured the government of the proficient capacity of indigenous pharma manufacturers to meeting the medicine needs of citizens, if all their challenges will be resolved immediately.

The Mid-Year Meting, he noted, will close with a dinner on Thursday, where awards will be presented to selected Nigerians, who have contributed immensely to national development and growth.
